Working with Oscar-winning designer Catherine Martin on Baz Luhrmann’s groundbreaking Netflix series about the birth of hip-hip was a “lifelong dream” for Christina, who describes the experience as “exhilarating.” Though The Get Down is a period piece (it takes place in the Bronx in the 1970s), Christina was thrilled to embrace Luhrmann and Martin’s “more is more” aesthetic by presenting a bold, heightened vision of disco-era New York City. Martin told her, “If you can layer it, put a ruffle on it, bejewel it, bedazzle it, or put feathers on it – do it!”
